When installing a camshaft on K20c1 and K20c8 you often require phase limiter pins. Unfortunately due to reassembly error of the gears they often break internally. I’ve documented many cases even from well known companies where the gear breaks almost immediately or prematurely. Many shops also use incorrect tools disassembling the gears stripping the bolts. After years of testing and over 50 installs with zero failures, a fool proof method has been created here at Fk8td.
There is no torque spec in the Honda manual because Honda only has you replace the whole gear. This is another situation where the gear will fall prematurely due to improper tightened phaser bolts.
It is rare to see the vct fail from improper tuning but can occur if the cam timing is set improperly but this is a long term issue. Not a short term failure.
Our method has shown 100 percent success. The vehicle MUST be tuned properly for camshaft upgrade to prevent possibility of long term failures.
